Key, Geoffrey - British artist

Geoffrey Key's mastery of form is most readily seen in his figures and horses These works reveal his skill and ease of expression as a draughtsman, painter and sculptor. Through his handling of line, tone and colour, and stripping away the superfluous in the imagery, he interprets and reveals the essence of his subject with certainty and sincerity.
Xanthos and Trojan are so much more than illustrations of horses - they are imbued with powerful meaning. Far from simple representations, they are manifestations of strength, movement, balance and harmony, all captured as if suspended in the essential of the moment.

  • Warrior
    £15000.00
    21.5" (W) x 20" (H) x 6" (D)

    Bronze, 1964

Warrior has its origins in a 1964 sketch depicting an idea for the unity and co-operation of horse and rider. A sculpture maquette soon followed, of metal and plaster construction.
This sculpture was acquired in 1964 and had continued to be cared for in the same collection ever since. In 2016 the collector contacted Geoffrey Key to say he had for some time wished for the piece to be cast in bronze to ensure its preservation. Arrangements were agreed and the maquette entrusted to Castle Fine Arts, providers of the UK's leading fine art casting and fabrication services.
An edition of six faithful copies of the original, each signed and numbered, has now been produced.
