Williams, Kyffin

Born 1918 on the island of Anglesey, Kyffin Williams started painting on the advice of a doctor after failing a medical examination to join the army aged twenty three. He attended the Slade School of Art in London for three years before embarking on a teaching career which lasted almost thirty years.

He became and still is one of the most celebrated and famous welsh artists that has ever lived and received many accolades and awards during his lifetime including an OBE in 1982, a KBE in 1995 and a knighthood in 2000.

After suffering from lung cancer Kyffin Williams died in 2006.
