Vettriano, Jack

Born in 1951 in Fife, former coal miner Jack Vettriano is a self-taught artist whose paintings are instantly recognisable.
He has studios both in Scotland and London and counts Jack Nicholson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Tim Rice and Robbie Coltrane amongst his collectors. Often hailed as the 'people's painter' by the British press he has never been accepted by the art establishment.
His most famous iconic painting 'The Singing Butler' sold at auction for £744,500 in 2004 having been rejected in 1992 when it was submitted for inclusion in the Royal Academy Summer Show.
